The Octomore 16.3 Edition, a super-heavily peated single malt from the Bruichladdich Distillery.
It's a special release that showcases the unique characteristics of 100% Concerto barley grown on Islay's Octomore Farm.
Distilled in 2019 from the 2018 harvest, this whisky is aged for five years. With a high phenol level of 189.5 PPM and bottled at 61.6% ABV, it's a powerful and intense expression.
The maturation process for this release is particularly interesting, as it involves a combination of Bourbon, Sauternes, and Pedro Ximénez casks. The whisky is non-chill filtered and has no added colouring, and it’s matured entirely on Islay.
On the nose, you'll find a delightful mix of honeyed malt, toasted grain, and a distinct earthiness, along with hints of lemon zest, green apple peel, and delicate floral notes. Peat smoke is there but surprisingly doesn’t overpower.
The palate is a continuation of these aromas, offering orchard fruits, citrus, and a touch of vanilla sweetness, all woven together with threads of smoke and a hint of salinity.
The finish is long, leaving behind notes of sweet barley, gentle smokiness, citrus, and a touch of minerality.
This whisky is a testament to the distillery's commitment to creating a bold and complex spirit.
